Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has underscored the importance of education, revealing that one of his biggest ambitions after retiring from football is to return to school and obtain a university degree.
The Nigerian international said that while football has brought him global recognition and success, education remains a lifelong pursuit that he hopes to fulfil when his playing career comes to an end.
Speaking in an interview with Instablog TV, the Galatasaray forward reflected on how life experiences have shaped him beyond the classroom but insisted that academic achievement remains valuable.
“As an adult, not everything I learned came from school. There are life lessons you encounter through your journey,” Osimhen said.
The 27-year-old noted that professional football offers only a limited window of opportunity, stressing the need for athletes to prepare for life after retirement.
“For me, it would be an amazing thing to also get a degree, which I’m still considering because football doesn’t last forever. You probably play for 20 or 25 years, and then you’re done,” he said.
Osimhen explained that although he has investments and other opportunities to rely on after football, earning a university degree would represent a personal milestone and serve as an inspiration to young people.
“In as much as I have a lot of things to fall back on when I’m done, I think it’s still important for me to set an example and a standard for the younger generation,” he added.
The Super Eagles star also offered words of encouragement to young Nigerians who were forced to suspend their education because of financial hardship or other life challenges.
According to him, dropping out of school should never be seen as the end of one’s academic journey, as education remains accessible to those willing to return.
“Even though you dropped out due to some kind of challenges you have, it’s something you can always go back to. School is always there,” he said.
Osimhen, who did not disclose when he intends to resume his studies or the course he hopes to pursue, has been widely praised for using his platform to promote education, with many fans describing his remarks as a timely reminder that academic qualifications remain important regardless of career success or financial achievement.
