The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Sharafadeen Alli, has fulfilled his N25 million pledge to traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at Bode Market in Ibadan.
Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, presented the cheque to the traders on Monday through an APC chieftain, Shina Alabi, during a brief ceremony at the market in Ibadan South West Local Government Area.
Speaking on behalf of the senator, Alabi said the donation reflected Alli’s commitment to supporting small businesses and improving the welfare of traders across the state.
“I remain committed to supporting small businesses and improving the livelihoods of traders across the state.
“This gesture is a demonstration of my sincerity, compassion and unwavering dedication to the welfare of ordinary citizens.
“I recognise the vital role market men and women play in sustaining the state’s economy,” he said, adding that traders would enjoy greater opportunities under an APC-led administration.
The presentation was witnessed by the APC Deputy National Auditor, Gbenga Olayemi, and party chieftain Tunji Olanipekun, who commended the traders for their continued support for the party.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Iyaloja of Bode Market, Sikiratu Makinde, thanked Alli for fulfilling his promise.
She described the intervention as timely and impactful, assuring the APC governorship candidate of the traders’ continued support and prayers.
The donation followed the fire incident that occurred in the early hours of July 3, 2026, which destroyed several shops and goods worth millions of naira at the popular Bode Market.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, while many affected traders continue to count their losses.
Bode Market is one of Ibadan’s major commercial centres, known for the sale of herbs, animal skins and other traditional products, serving traders from across the South-West and other parts of the country.
