Real Madrid have taken a major step towards signing highly rated Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande after reaching an agreement in principle with RB Leipzig for his transfer.

The 19-year-old is also understood to have agreed personal terms on a five-year contract that would keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until 2031.

Transfer expert Ben Jacobs disclosed the development on Sunday via his X account, stating that Madrid and Leipzig had struck an agreement in principle, with the player already settled on contract terms.

Diomande, who was born in Abidjan on November 14, 2006, joined Leipzig from Spanish club Leganés and enjoyed an impressive debut Bundesliga campaign. The exciting winger scored 12 league goals and registered several assists in 33 appearances, establishing himself as one of Europe’s brightest young talents.

He also enhanced his growing reputation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he featured for Ivory Coast and received widespread praise for his performances as the Elephants progressed to the knockout stage.

The breakthrough in negotiations comes just days after reports indicated that Diomande had given Real Madrid the green light over personal terms despite previously reaching a verbal agreement with Paris Saint-Germain in June.

Madrid’s initial offer, reportedly worth around €90 million with an additional €10 million in performance-related bonuses, was turned down by Leipzig, prompting the Spanish giants to return with an improved proposal that has now led to an agreement in principle.

The news generated excitement among football fans on social media, with many Madrid supporters celebrating the club’s latest move in the transfer market.

One fan, identified as @victorbellamyke, wrote, “He really chose Real over PSG.”

Another supporter, @Timoatonai, predicted, “Madrid is finally winning a trophy next season.”

A third fan, @CeePrince234, commented, “Barcelona in trouble next season,” while @Chidiugoo added, “They have Yamal. We have Diomande. Hala Madrid.”

If the deal is completed, Diomande will bolster Jose Mourinho’s attacking options as Real Madrid continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The two clubs are expected to finalise the remaining paperwork in the coming days, with details of the final transfer fee yet to be officially disclosed.
