The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and leaders of the Accord Party to apologise to President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, over what it described as “unfounded accusations” linking them to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) actions against the state government.
In a statement on Friday, the party said the recent directive by President Tinubu regarding the EFCC’s investigation into the Osun State Government did not amount to an exoneration of the administration from the allegations being investigated.
According to the APC, the President’s intervention was solely aimed at ensuring that the timing of the anti-graft agency’s action did not create the impression of political interference or influence the ongoing political process.
The party argued that the development should serve as a lesson for Governor Adeleke and his political associates, urging them to exercise greater restraint and political maturity before making public accusations.
It maintained that President Tinubu, former Governor Oyetola and the APC were unfairly accused of orchestrating the EFCC’s actions against the Osun State Government.
The APC further described President Tinubu’s intervention as evidence of his commitment to fairness and national unity, saying his decision reflected the qualities of a leader willing to rise above partisan interests.
The party also urged Governor Adeleke to reciprocate what it termed the President’s goodwill by withdrawing the criminal charges filed against the newly inaugurated executives of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state.
According to the APC, such a move would promote reconciliation and reinforce the spirit of political tolerance.
The party added that the governor should embrace dialogue and avoid actions capable of deepening political divisions in the state.
