Former Chairmen of local government councils across Osun West Senatorial District, who are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have called on the leadership of APC to zone the governorship ticket of the party to the senatorial district in the interest of justice, fairness and equity.
The ex-council bosses insisted that zoning the ticket of the party to the zone is the best strategy to win the governorship election in 2026.
Speaking at a press conference in Iwo on Wednesday, Mukaila Oladejo, who read the communique on behalf of the Forum of all Former Local Government Chairmen in Osun West, said Osun west remained the stronghold of Osun APC and the governorship candidate of the party, if selected from the district, would unseat the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Oladejo said the structure is resolute and united about the governorship agenda in the interest of the development of the district and the unity within the Party.
The Forum equally passed a Vote of Confidence on the leadership of ex-Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the ongoing national reforms.
The communiqué read in part, “The Forum converged to review policies and politics in Nigeria and Osun State in particular to advise all our party organs appropriately and provide necessary support and interventions to ensure the stability of the current administration at the national level and ensure victory for the party in the coming local government election and 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
“The Forum critically reviewed our party management and administration under the leadership of Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola and the State Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal and rated the party management excellent with the growing membership drive and coordination which is making our party more attractive to the people in the state and as well positioned the party to win future election in the state.
“The Forum unequivocally pass a Vote of Confidence on the leadership of our party in the state, Alhaji Isiaka Adgboyega Oyetola and the state working committee led by Sooko Tajudeen Lawal. The Forum, however, noted with serious concern, the rising political tension in Osun APC over the choice of candidate for 2026 governorship election.”
“That the Forum believe in the privilege Right of Refusal by the former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in the 2026 governorship contest in the interest of fairness as the last former governor of our party who still has the constitutional opportunity to spend another 4 years as governor.
“That outside former Governor Oyetola, from Osun central, the party should be firm and never contemplate zoning the governorship ticket outside Osun West Senatorial District in the interest of justice, fairness and equity.
“That during the 2022 governorship election, against all odds, Osun West APC delivered 6 out of 10 local governments in the senatorial district despite the fact the Peoples Democratic Party candidate came from Osun West.
“That the party is waxing stronger on daily basis and united in presenting a competent, vibrant and loyal party member that will drive the programmes and policies of our party to develop the state and make it more prosperous.
“That this position must be communicated to the Osun West APC Elders and other stakeholders in the party for transmission to Chief Bisi Akande, Alhaji Adgboyega Oyetola and the Osun State APC Elders Forum (Igbimo Agba)” the communiqué read.
The chairmen expressed strong conviction that the party will return to power by 2026 in Osun State with resolve of Osun West APC members to field a credible and popular candidate that will defeat Governor Ademola Adeleke.
