Nigerian singer and music executive Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, recently expressed interest in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), sparking a wave of reactions from Nigerians eager to offer advice on how he could get involved in the league.
At 33, Mr Eazi has made several forays into football, including a $6 million sponsorship of the Ghana Premier League in 2022, which was later canceled. He hinted at his interest in the NPFL with a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account: “I’ve got my eyes on NPFL.”
The post quickly garnered attention, with many fans suggesting ways the music star could invest in the league. One user, @wene084, recommended he purchase Rivers United, saying, “You were born and raised in PH. Come and buy Rivers United, please.”
Influencer Abaz Whyllzz also urged Mr Eazi to acquire former champions Akwa United, saying, “Come and buy Akwa United abeg.”
While his profile doesn’t indicate a direct involvement in football, another user, @emmache77, shared a more detailed suggestion, advising Mr Eazi to buy a club and invest in player development. The user suggested collaboration with foreign clubs in countries like Norway, Belgium, and Romania, as well as establishing an academy.
“Within a few years, you would be a multi-millionaire in Euros, and at the same time, you’re giving players the opportunity to try out in Europe,” the user wrote.
The 2024/25 NPFL season is currently on a mid-season break, with action set to resume this weekend for the final 19 games. Rangers International are the defending champions, while Enyimba FC holds the record for the most league titles in Nigeria, with nine.
