The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has urged Nigerians to familiarize themselves with the country’s laws, stressing that they are easily accessible to all citizens.

In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, Adejobi pointed out that Nigeria is governed by two primary criminal laws: the Criminal Code for the South and the Penal Code for the North, alongside other various legal acts.

He wrote, “Know the law: Nigeria operates two major criminal laws — the Criminal Code for the South and the Penal Code for the North. There are also other laws known as miscellaneous acts. These legal documents are not restricted.”

Encouraging citizens to take an active role in understanding their rights, Adejobi added, “Let’s read and familiarize ourselves with the laws, as Nigeria is not a lawless country. Have a great weekend!”

Earlier, human rights activist Deji Adeyanju accused Adejobi of using his position to suppress Nigerians. Adeyanju, along with his law firm, petitioned the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and the European Union, urging them to impose a visa ban on the FPRO.

The petition alleged that Adejobi had ordered the unlawful arrest and detention of individuals who expressed opinions online. It further claimed that the police spokesperson has consistently defended police brutality and misused the law against dissenters.
