The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has detained several of its officers over allegations of extorting ₦5.2 million from a traveler, following an order from the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

In a statement issued by NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale, the case gained public attention after a viral social media post accused the officers of extorting a young man en route from Ado-Ekiti to Akure.

Reacting to the incident, NSCDC Commandant General Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi condemned the officers’ conduct, describing it as a serious violation of the Corps’ ethics and operational standards.

He ordered their immediate transfer to the Corps’ headquarters in Abuja for detention and the setup of a disciplinary panel to investigate the matter thoroughly.

Dr. Audi affirmed that any officer found culpable would face sanctions in line with the Public Service Rules.

“We will not condone any act of indiscipline. Our leadership stands for integrity, transparency, and accountability,” the statement emphasized.

He also urged citizens to report any misconduct by security personnel, assuring them that whistleblowers would be safeguarded against any form of intimidation or retaliation.
