Popular Nigerian singer Olawale Oloforo, better known as Brymo, became the center of online buzz following his performance at a lavish Lagos wedding between Abibat Odunbaku and Idris Bello.

Guests expecting a smooth, soulful set from the “Yellow” singer were met instead with a strikingly eccentric display. Dressed in a plain white shirt, brown trousers, and brown boots, Brymo delivered a performance that left the audience visibly stunned and social media ablaze.

Known for his experimental albums like Klĭtôrĭs and Yellow, Brymo’s trance-like stage presence divided opinions. While some hailed the act as raw artistic expression, others questioned whether it was appropriate for the elegant affair.

“Who booked Brymo and didn’t tell him the dress code?” one user, @infonate, asked on X (formerly Twitter).

@funnyhen_comedian joked: “Dem promise am two plates of rice? Why he dey perform like upcomer?”

Still, others came to his defense “this is art!” posted Kehinde Olusegun, while @TeetoOlayeni weighed in “Brymo is the perfect example of separating the art from the artist. The man is brilliant and chaotic. Maybe that’s what it takes.”

Not all feedback was lighthearted @badgirlperch remarked, “E remain small, e for match the couple head.”

@SeunLagos added, “E don high.” @Havilahdivas said, “Someone take the mic and escort him out.”

Even off social media, the performance has reignited a wider cultural debate: Where is the line between creative freedom and contextual appropriateness, especially in Nigeria’s evolving entertainment space?

Some attendees saw Brymo’s display as a mismatch for a wedding setting, while others praised it as unfiltered expression and “pure art.”
