The Kwara State Government has imposed a security cordon around Babanla, a community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, in response to a recent attack by armed criminals.

The incident occurred on Friday when the assailants targeted a police station and made attempts to loot several grocery shops and a hotel. Their efforts were swiftly repelled by a joint response from security forces and courageous members of the community.

In a statement issued on Friday, the state government praised the Nigerian Army, police personnel, and local residents for their prompt and effective action in thwarting the attack.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who has been in close communication with security commanders and local vigilante groups, has ordered a sustained security operation in the area to eliminate any remaining threats and guarantee the safety of residents.

“While further updates are expected, the Governor assures the public that comprehensive efforts are underway—in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser—to flush out criminal elements from the area,” the statement read.

The Governor also urged residents to cooperate with security personnel and to remain calm as operations continue.
