The Rivers State House of Assembly on Thursday resumed plenary session, marking the end of a six-month state of emergency imposed by President Bola Tinubu.
President Tinubu lifted the emergency on September 17, directing Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the Assembly to return to duty on September 18.
The session was presided over by Speaker Martins Amaewhule at the conference hall within the legislative quarters in Port Harcourt, which has served as the lawmakers’ temporary chamber since their official complex on Moscow Road was razed and later demolished by the state government.
The reconstruction of the chamber, awarded under the outgone sole administrator of the state, Ibok-Ete Ibas, remains unfinished.
Tinubu declared emergency rule in the oil-rich state on March 18 following a prolonged political crisis triggered by the rift between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
