It was another historic day for the students of Ayedire local government as the lawmaker representing the constituency at the House of Assembly, Hon. Elisha Akinyemi Oderinwale held the third edition of the educational advancement programme.
In this edition, the lawmaker committed over N10m to the educational development in the constituency.
The gathering of traditional rulers, community stakeholders, students and teachers was electrified as the lawmaker announced that 180 students who participated in the just concluded summer coaching will get free registration for their West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination while another 100 will be registered for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
Speaking at the event, Oderinwale said the exercise was born out of his commitment to promoting education since his days as a student leader.
He said, “This event is coming after four weeks of free and intensive summer class across Ileogbo, Kuta and Oluponna. We had 350 students across both JSS and SSS classes that benefitted from the coaching and all of them will today be given writing materials to prepare them for new academic session.
Today, we are awarding 180 WAEC and 100 UTME forms to our brilliant and we thank God that the past investment is yielding results as one of the beneficiaries who is here today is now a 200L student at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. We’re also monitoring and supporting those in tertiary institutions to ensure success.” Oderinwale added.
Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers, Oba Habeeb Adetoyese Agbaje, the Olu of Ileogbo commended Oderinwale’s efforts, highlighting the impact of the initiative on the students.
Oba Agbaje said, “You can see that we are here. It’s because what the Honourable is doing for the constituency. Students are benefiting greatly from his empowerment and we are here to support him.”
In his lecture, Dr. Adebanjo Adekiigbe of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede urged the students to identify their academic weaknesses and plan ahead for their university courses.
He emphasized the importance of starting early, even from SS1, and highlighted the significance of choosing the right subject combination, noting that having money alone is not enough to secure admission in school if the wrong subjects are combined.
The overall best student in the class was rewarded with N100,000 cash in addition to WASSCE and JAMB registration for her.
