The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, on Tuesday administered the oath of office to three newly elected members who emerged victorious in the August 16, 2025, bye-elections.
The lawmakers were among five elected to occupy vacant seats in the Green Chamber following the deaths of four members and the nomination of Dennis Idahosa as the running mate to Senator Monday Okpebholo in the 2024 Edo governorship election.
The House had lost four legislators in 2024 — Ekene Adams (Kaduna), Isa Dogonyaro (Jigawa), and Olaide Akinremi (Oyo) — to illness, while Oriyomi Onanuga passed away in 2025.
To fill the vacant seats, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted bye-elections across the affected constituencies in August.
Of the five seats contested, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured four victories, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clinched one.
Those sworn in on Tuesday include Omosede Igbinedion (Ovia South/Ovia West/Ovia North-East Federal Constituency, Edo State), Joseph Bagudu (Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, Kaduna State), and Mukhtar Rabiu (Garki/Babura Federal Constituency, Jigawa State).
However, no explanation was given for the absence of Elegbeji Ayola, who won the Sagamu/Ikenne/Remo North Federal Constituency seat in Ogun State, and Oyekunle Sunday, who secured victory in Ibadan North, Oyo State.
