The Obidient Movement, a group of supporters loyal to Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has issued a strong warning against any attempt to rig the upcoming Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8.
Speaking at a press conference held at the campaign office of LP’s candidate, George Moghalu, in Awka, the group’s National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, said the movement would resist any form of electoral malpractice.
“Let it be stated unequivocally that the Obidient family is fully on ground in every part of Anambra State. We have completed the inauguration of our polling unit commanders across all 5,720 polling units,” Tanko stated.
He added that the group has deployed “robust mechanisms and digital technologies” to guard against vote manipulation, emphasizing that the era of election results being “written in back rooms” is over.
“This generation of Nigerians, this generation of Obidients, will not allow the old order of electoral malpractice to thrive again,” Tanko warned.
He further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain neutral and professional in the conduct of the polls, and urged security agencies to ensure a safe environment for voters.
Tanko also assured Anambra residents that the movement’s volunteers, including women and youth structures, have been trained to monitor every stage of the electoral process — from voter accreditation to result transmission.
“A new Anambra is possible, and together, we will make it happen,” he declared.
The November 8 election will conclude the first term of Governor Charles Soludo, elected under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). The race is expected to be highly competitive, with the Labour Party, All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and APGA all fielding candidates in a state widely considered the political stronghold of Peter Obi.
