President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Governor Chukwuma Soludo on his re-election as Governor of Anambra State, describing the victory as “an affirmation of visionary leadership” and pledging continued collaboration between the Federal Government and the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Soludo the winner of Saturday’s off-cycle election after he won all 21 Local Government Areas in Anambra.
In a statement released on Sunday, President Tinubu commended the people of Anambra, security agencies, and INEC for ensuring a peaceful and credible election, urging Soludo to be “magnanimous in victory.”
“Professor Soludo’s re-election is a testament to his visionary leadership and the significant progress the state has made under his guidance,” Tinubu said.
“Governor Soludo, the Solution, has demonstrated that knowledge is power that academic principles can be applied in serving the people with accountability, transparency, and prudent management.”
Tinubu also praised the new INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, for conducting what he described as a credible poll, urging the commission to maintain and improve electoral standards.
During a visit to Anambra in May, the President inaugurated several projects executed by the Soludo administration, which he described as “remarkable” and “a reflection of good thinking and purposeful leadership.”
Reaffirming his support, Tinubu said the Federal Government would continue to partner with Anambra to sustain progress in the state.
“I assure Governor Soludo of my unwavering support and look forward to continued collaboration between Anambra and the Federal Government,” Tinubu said.
“The victory of the All Grand Progressives Alliance (APGA) demonstrates the vitality of our democracy that hard work and progressive leadership will always be rewarded.”
With his re-election, Soludo becomes the third governor in Anambra’s political history after Peter Obi and Willie Obiano to win a second term. His victory extends APGA’s two-decade dominance in the state.
Channels TV and other media outlets reported that Soludo won by a landslide, polling over 420,000 votes far ahead of his closest rival from the APC.
Political analysts had earlier described the election as a test of APGA’s enduring influence in the South-East. Following INEC’s declaration, Soludo’s second term set to run until March 2026 now begins with renewed momentum.
Tinubu commended the governor for bringing “discipline, grace, brilliance, and a fresh perspective” to governance, saying Anambra was “truly living up to its motto as the Light of the Nation.”
