The University of Ilorin has officially begun its 50th anniversary celebrations with a lively Health Walk that brought together staff, students, alumni, and friends of the institution in an impressive show of unity.
The walk, which took place on Monday at the university’s Main Gate, was flagged off by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN. He praised the massive turnout, describing it as a clear demonstration of the community’s commitment to the growth and values of the institution.
According to a statement issued by the university’s spokesperson, Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor explained that the golden jubilee celebration aims to showcase the University of Ilorin’s impact, highlight its achievements over the past 50 years, and reaffirm its readiness for future advancements.
Prof. Egbewole added that the walk is also symbolic of the university’s longstanding bond with its host community, noting that UNILORIN remains a key contributor to the socio-economic development of Ilorin and Kwara State.
He also expressed appreciation to development partners and supporters from around the world whose consistent contributions have helped shape the university’s progress and the success of its anniversary programmes.
The walk is expected to conclude with a courtesy visit to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR. Prof. Egbewole described the visit as highly significant, noting that the Emirate has been instrumental in the institution’s growth since its establishment.
