Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade have successfully repelled a bandit attack and rescued a kidnapped victim in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State. The operation took place around Oshokoshoko and Obajana.
In a statement on Wednesday, Lieutenant Hassan Abdulahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the brigade, said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes in the state.
According to Abdulahi, troops launched an ambush in the early hours of 25 November after receiving credible intelligence that bandits were moving along the Oshokoshoko–Obajana corridor with abducted persons. Soldiers from the Kabba Patrol Base, in coordination with hybrid forces, intercepted the criminals during the mission.
“The troops made contact with the armed bandits, who opened fire but were overpowered by superior firepower,” Abdulahi said. “One bandit was neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.”
An AK-47 rifle was recovered, and one kidnapped victim was rescued. The victim, found weak and distressed, was evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.
Abdulahi added that pursuit operations were ongoing to track the fleeing bandits. He also urged residents to support security efforts by providing useful information.
The 12 Brigade has been actively engaged in anti-crime operations across Kogi. Earlier this month, soldiers at the Forward Operating Base in Oguma rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered ransom money intended for their release.
