Lagos CP orders SCID probe into Pastor Okafor over sex scandal claims

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to investigate multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor.

The directive follows public outrage sparked by allegations that have trended on social media in recent days. As earlier reported by Saturday PUNCH, Okafor stepped down from pastoral duties on New Year’s Day as several women, including Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, accused him of sexual impropriety.

During a church service last Sunday, the cleric publicly apologised to Ogala, kneeling on the pulpit as he admitted to past “mistakes” and sought forgiveness. The controversy comes weeks after his wedding to a new bride, identified as Pearl, on December 16, 2025, an event attended by prominent clerics.

Initially, the Lagos State Police Command said it could not arrest the pastor due to the absence of a formal petition from any alleged victim. The command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, stated on Friday that she was unaware of any official complaint against Okafor despite the allegations circulating online.

However, following renewed enquiries on Saturday night, Adebisi confirmed on Sunday that the CP had ordered the SCID to invite the pastor for questioning and also summon the alleged victims for interviews.

“The CP has directed the SCID to invite the pastor for investigation, even though no formal complaint has been lodged,” Adebisi told *PUNCH Online*, adding that witnesses would also be invited to provide statements to aid the probe.

She further disclosed that she had personally contacted a YouTuber who interviewed some of the alleged victims to obtain direct links to the witnesses.

The allegations against Okafor first surfaced on December 14 when Ogala posted emotional videos on Instagram, claiming the pastor had a sexual relationship with her from 2017 to 2025 and repeatedly promised to marry her. She also accused him of sharing explicit images, contributing to the breakdown of her marriage, and causing her emotional and financial distress.

Ogala later shared screenshots, bedroom photos, and videos, alleging the pastor sent her $10,000 to retract her claims and accuse a rival cleric of orchestrating the scandal. Through her lawyers, she subsequently demanded N1bn in damages, alleging threats and intimidation following her arrest and detention by the police.

As the controversy widened, other women, including Okafor’s former wife, Bessem Okafor, also accused him of infidelity, deception, manipulation, and physical assault.

However, some church members, in separate interviews with Saturday PUNCH, dismissed the allegations as attempts by disgruntled individuals to extort money from their pastor.
