The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a strong safety advisory to prospective members of the 2026 Batch A Stream I, urging them to avoid travelling at night as they prepare to report to their orientation camps across the country.

In a statement shared on Tuesday via its National Directorate Headquarters’ official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the NYSC stressed that all journeys should be undertaken strictly during daylight hours. The scheme warned that night travel exposes corps members to heightened security threats and increased road safety risks.

The NYSC also encouraged prospective corps members to patronise only registered transport companies and approved motor parks, noting that this significantly reduces the chances of encountering unsafe travel conditions.

To further enhance safety, the scheme advised travellers to share their live location with family members or trusted contacts throughout their journey, explaining that this could prove crucial in the event of an emergency.

In addition, corps members were urged to be vigilant and speak up if drivers engage in speeding or reckless driving. According to the NYSC, remaining silent in such situations could put lives in danger.

The advisory also highlighted the importance of keeping mobile phones fully charged and carrying power banks to ensure uninterrupted communication while on the road.

Emphasising that no journey is worth risking one’s life, the NYSC advised corps members to suspend their trips and continue the following day if it gets late.

The scheme reassured prospective corps members of its unwavering commitment to their safety and well-being and called for strict adherence to the guidelines as the 2026 Batch A Stream I orientation exercise draws closer.
