A woman identified simply as Esther has reportedly died after visiting her boyfriend in the Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday.
A resident of the area, Dauda, told reporters that Esther left her home earlier that day to visit her boyfriend but did not return.
According to him, the boyfriend later contacted Esther’s elder brother that night to report that she had died.
Dauda explained that the boyfriend claimed he bought food for Esther, after which she allegedly began vomiting shortly after eating.
He said the man reportedly rushed her to Kubwa General Hospital, where she was confirmed dead while receiving medical attention.
Dauda further alleged that the boyfriend has since switched off his phone, as well as Esther’s phone.
He said, “Esther left home in the afternoon on January 21, 2026, informing her sister that she was going to a bank in Dei-Dei. She, however, did not return home.
“Later that night, at about on the same day, his brother received an anonymous phone call from a man who identified himself as Esther’s boyfriend. The caller re stated that Esther had visited him at his residence, where he bought food for her. After eating the meal, she began vomiting, prompting him to rush her to Kubwa General Hospital.
“He said Esther died while receiving treatment at the hospital. Since then her boyfriend’s number has been switched off, same with Esther’s phone number. He didn’t also give his name or address.”
When contacted on Friday, the Federal Capital Territory Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the matter was under investigation.
“We are aware of the incident and we are investigating,” she said.
