No fewer than 15 persons have been killed following a deadly clash between suspected bandits and local security volunteers in Falele village, Daddara district of Jibia Local Government Area in Katsina State.

The incident, which occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, reportedly began when the armed attackers invaded the community, leading to a fierce gun battle with vigilantes and community guards.

Confirming the development, the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mua’zu, said the violence affected Falale and Kadobe villages.

He disclosed that the confrontation resulted in the death of 15 people, adding that security operatives have since brought the situation under control and restored calm in the affected areas.

According to him, vigilantes engaged some repentant bandits, leading to the killing of three of them, an action that triggered a retaliatory attack which claimed more lives.

Mua’zu noted that a joint security response involving the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, Civilian Watch members, and community leaders helped to stabilise the situation and prevent further casualties.

He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue, assuring that the government is committed to ensuring justice for victims and preventing a recurrence.

The commissioner also reiterated the commitment of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s administration to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that sustained security strategies had kept Jibia relatively peaceful for over a year prior to the incident.

Residents were further encouraged to report suspicious activities, as community collaboration remains vital to achieving lasting peace.

Katsina State, like other parts of North-West Nigeria, has continued to experience recurring attacks by armed groups, often resulting in killings, abductions, and displacement of rural dwellers.
