Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has undergone a successful operation on his fractured right forearm following an injury sustained in a UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool.
His club, Galatasaray, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the procedure was carried out at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital by the club’s medical team.
The injury occurred during a first-half aerial duel with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté, who landed awkwardly on Osimhen’s arm.
Despite the pain, the Nigerian forward initially continued playing with his arm strapped before he was eventually substituted.
Galatasaray wished the striker a speedy recovery, expressing hope for his swift return to action.
Osimhen later revealed that Konaté reached out after the match to check on him and clarify that the incident was accidental.
The Super Eagles forward is expected to spend about four weeks recovering, followed by an additional two weeks to regain full match fitness.
Before the injury setback, Osimhen had been in impressive form, scoring 19 goals and providing seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions, including seven goals and three assists in 10 Champions League matches.
His absence will be a concern for Galatasaray, who currently sit top of the league, four points ahead of rivals Fenerbahçe, albeit with a game in hand.
