President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination, conveyed to the National Assembly for screening and approval, follows the resignation of the former minister, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.
According to a State House statement issued on Thursday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tegbe brings over 35 years of experience in fiscal policy, economic reform, and governance across both public and private sectors.
The Oyo State-born technocrat is a former Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives in fiscal reforms, institutional transformation, and regulatory development. He has also advised government agencies and private organisations on investment structuring and strategic policy frameworks.
Tegbe currently serves as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, coordinating engagements aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between Nigeria and China.
His professional background includes involvement in power sector reforms, particularly with institutions such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
The presidency said the nomination is expected to bolster ongoing efforts to reform the power sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investment in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tinubu expressed confidence that Tegbe, if confirmed, would leverage his expertise to drive critical reforms and deliver improved electricity outcomes for Nigerians.
