As the gubernatorial election of Osun State approaches, the leaders of the Islamic faith across the state have called on all stakeholders to ensure that the election is conducted in an atmosphere devoid of violence, rancour, and mud-slinging

The Islamic leaders made the call today in Osogbo in a tete a tete between the Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States, Asiwaju Khamis Olatunde Badmus and the leadership of the league of Imams and Alfas in Osun State.

The forum, which also had the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji in attendance, stressed the importance of the need for muslim parents across the state to educate their wards never to allow themselves to be used as tools for thuggery and violence by politicians.

In his remarks, Asiwaju Khamis Olatunde Badmus said the forum was convened to set agenda for muslims in the state to partake effectively in administration and governance at all levels in Nigeria.

According to him ” when I was turbanned as the Asiwaju Musulumi of Yoruba land over forty years ago by the body of Imams and Alfas, I made a commitment that I would ensure that muslims in Yoruba land were accorded their rightful position in the scheme of things in Nigeria, hence it is part of my responsibility to awaken our consciousness to participate actively in matters of administration and governance for the benefit of all muslims, particularly our children ”

The forum, which was attended by the leaders of the Islamic faith from the thirty local government council areas and the Area office in Osun state, discussed the need for government to expand the scope of Islamic education in its school curriculum.

In his remarks, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji expressed appreciation to the Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland and the body of Imams and Alfas for giving him the opportunity to address muslims in the state through the forum.

Oyebamiji remarked that he was born into a muslim family . According to him , ” I have never done anything to the contrary from childhood through the decades that I have lived by Allah’s mercy.”

He assured all muslims in the state of his administration’s commitment to their welfare and the welfare of all irrespective of faith or political leaning if elected as governor. In his words, ” if elected , I will be governor for all citizens irrespective of religious persuation , political beliefs or philosophy , every citizen will be protected under my administration ”
