The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate following the abduction of a resident in Port Harcourt.
The victim, identified by the police as Mr Hassan, was reportedly kidnapped on September 6, 2026, around the vicinity of Fidelity Bank, Garrison, Port Harcourt.
He was allegedly taken to Igbugulu Waterside, Borikiri, where he was held captive for three days before his relatives paid N10.3 million ransom for his release.
The Command’s spokesperson, Blessing Agabe, disclosed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday.
Agabe said the arrest followed a distress call received by the Command, after which operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit launched an intelligence-led operation that led to the suspects’ arrest.
She identified the suspects as 24-year-old Victor Ifeanyi, also known as “Big Boby,” a native of Aguleri Community in Otuocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, and 36-year-old Aniekan Okon Michael, aka “Duff Man,” from Ikot Ukpor in Essien Udim LGA, Akwa Ibom State.
According to the police, preliminary investigation showed that the suspects confessed to their alleged involvement in the kidnap operation and disclosed that the syndicate had six members.
The suspects also reportedly told investigators that the gang used a white mini-bus during the operation.
The statement added that the police had intensified efforts to arrest the remaining members of the syndicate and bring them to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, urged residents to provide credible information that could assist the police in identifying and apprehending criminal elements in the state.
Adepoju assured members of the public that information provided would be treated confidentially.
He also reiterated the Command’s commitment to using intelligence-led operations to disrupt kidnapping syndicates and other criminal networks across Rivers State, while urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
