The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate allegedly involved in the abduction of a man in Port Harcourt.
The victim, identified as Hassan, was reportedly abducted around Fidelity Bank, Garrison, Port Harcourt, and held captive for three days at Igbugulu Waterside, Borikiri, before his relatives paid N10.3m ransom for his release.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Blessing Agabe, disclosed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday.
Agabe said operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit arrested the suspects following intelligence received about the abduction.
She said the command received credible information about the incident on September 7, 2026, a day after the victim was allegedly abducted.
“Upon receipt of the information, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit immediately swung into action and commenced intelligence-led operations, which resulted in the arrest of two suspected members of the syndicate,” Agabe stated.
The suspects were identified as 24-year-old Victor Ifeanyi, also known as “Big Boby”, from Aguleri Community, Otuocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, and 36-year-old Aniekan Okon Michael, alias “Duff Man”, from Ikot Ukpor, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
According to the police, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects confessed to their alleged involvement in the kidnap and disclosed that the syndicate had six members.
The suspects also allegedly told investigators that the gang used a white minibus, popularly known as a Keke bus, during the operation.
Agabe said the command had intensified efforts to apprehend the remaining members of the syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist the police in identifying and arresting criminal elements.
Adepoju assured residents that such information would be treated with the necessary confidentiality.
He added that the command would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to disrupt kidnapping syndicates and other criminal networks across the state.
The police commissioner also urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
