The Accord Party candidate for the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi, has urged residents of Otan-Ile and Imesi-Ile in Osun State to reject politicians who abandon them after winning elections but return to solicit their support when another election approaches.
Olajengbesi stressed that voters hold the power to determine the political future of their representatives, adding that elected officials must remain accessible, accountable and committed to the people who helped them secure victory.
He made the appeal during a familiarisation visit to the two communities as part of efforts to strengthen his grassroots support and mobilise residents ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The candidate maintained that political representation should not be limited to election campaigns, insisting that politicians must maintain meaningful relationships with their constituents and recognise the contributions of party members and supporters who work for their success.
The visit comes amid political realignments in Ijesa North following the defection of some prominent political figures, including Hon. Wole Oke and Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi, to the All Progressives Congress.
The defections reportedly generated speculation among political opponents that Olajengbesiโs camp would struggle to secure significant electoral support.
However, the Accord Party candidate expressed confidence in the strength of his grassroots mobilisation, commending party leaders, members and supporters for their efforts, which he said contributed to an impressive outcome for Governor Ademola Adeleke in the August 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Olajengbesi also praised the people of Otan-Ile for their turnout and support for Adeleke during the election, urging them to sustain the same spirit of participation and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He emphasised that the future of the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency would depend largely on the willingness of residents to participate actively in the electoral process and make informed choices about those seeking to represent them.

The candidate further called for stronger engagement between political office seekers and the electorate, arguing that effective representation requires consistent communication, responsiveness to community needs and a sustained commitment to public service beyond election periods.
He urged residents to remain politically conscious and ensure that their votes are used to demand accountability from those seeking public office.
