The Chairman of Ife South local government area of Osun state, Hon. Mufutau Adegbite has berated an online news medium, Sahara Reporters over allegations of diversion of public fund, describing the report as baseless and unfounded.

Sahara Reporters in a publication alleged that the council boss of conniving with his wife who is a civil servant in the local government to illegally divert N50million from the council’s account for personal use.

According to the Council boss, “You cannot take any loan on behalf of local government without the approval of Ministry of Local Govt and Chieftaincy Affairs, as a matter of fact, I did not take any loan, hence I don’t know where Saharareporters got its information from as all the records are there for inspection.”

However, Hon. Adegbite while reacting described the publication as false, one-sided, malicious and fictitious. Stressing that his administration has been adjudged as one of the most transparent and accountable Local council adminstration in the state. He said that the publications was sponsored by mischief makers who are hell bent in tarnishing his image out of envy over the numerous giants strides he achieved in office. Emphasising that he had never misappropriated public fund since the time he took the mantle of leadership at the local council.

It was gathered that the cashier who is the wife of the Chairman has been in the position since 2016 even before the emergence of her husband. She served as cashier during the tenure of Hon. Remi Odewale, the immediate past caretaker Chairman of the council and the same mode of operation which did not raise any dust

“My wife has been working as the local government cashier before I was elected as chairman, and at no time had we turned the local government into our personal venture.” describing his wife as an honest, transparent and disciplined civil servant with 100 percent clean record as an incorruptible government worker.

He also expressed his disappointment in Saharareporters over the one-sided story, saying that “It baffles one’s mind the type of journalism saharareporter is practising”

“An allegation was raised and the medium did not deemed it fit to hear from the person alleged before going to the public with false accusations”. He said.

Hon. Adegbite enjoined the public to disregard the allegation and consider it as unsubstantiated rumor while urging them to continue to support his administration in delivering the dividends of democracy to the nooks and crannies of Ife South Local Government.
