Bamidele Salam, the House of Representatives Member representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo federal constituency, has stated that the unresponsiveness and partisanship nature of Governor Gboyega Oyetola is making the state losing out on golden opportunities meant to facilitate the developmental projects into the State.

Salam, who accused Governor Oyetola of bringing party partisanship into the running of affairs of the state, said members of the opposition elected into National and State Assemblies are not being carried along.

The lawmaker stated this on Monday at a media parley organised by Osun Online Media Practitioners in Osogbo, the State capital.

He specifically mentioned how his efforts to revitalize Cocoa Produce Industry in Ede and also on Ido-Osun international airport yielded no results because of the unresponsiveness of the governor.

Salam said, “My critic about Oyetola is nothing personal. I had a meeting with the Vice president of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo where I discussed several issues including Cocoa Produce Industry in Ede. The Vice president gave me a roadmap of what we needed to do which include the state government taking some steps. I sent a message to the Governor where I briefed him and requested an appointment with him but I got only a two-word response and nothing after then.

“I mentioned the issue of Ido-Osun International airport on radio today, the Chairman of Senate committee on aviation is my boss at the Nigeria Union of Journalist and the House committee chair on aviation is my friend. I discussed the issue of the Ido-Osun airport with them and they both gave us some procedures needed to be done which include the state government taking some steps but the Governor was not responsive till the 2021 budget circle was over.

“I have nothing personal against the governor. I like him as a gentleman but I think he should be more inclusive and less partisanship. He should see himself as Governor is Osun State. This is what the minority caucus of the House of Assembly are also saying. He should ask Timothy Owoeye how the minority members were treated by Oyinlola during his tenure.”

Reacting to the banning of Twitter, Salam said President Muhammadu Buhari is going overboard, stating that the President is equating his personal desire to the National desire.

He said he’s one of the first federal lawmakers to condemn the act when it was announced, stating that it goes against freedom of expression.

“I was one of the members of the National Assembly to issue a statement condemning the banning of Twitter. I think the president is going overboard. He’s equating his desire with National desire which is wrong. The banning has portrayed Nigeria in bad light in the comity of States and I think the federal government should rescind its decision”. The lawmaker said.

Speaking on his achievements so far in his first two years in the Green chamber, Salam said he’s the only first timer from Osun State to have sponsored eleven bills. He said he has several motions that have yielded positive results for the people of his constituency.

“I have sponsored eleven bills cutting across education, health, micro credit and security. They are at various states of legislation at the House of Representatives. I have also moved several motions that have yielded positive results for my constituents.

“The Awo-Iragberi-Ejigbo road is a result of my motion and its reconstruction is ongoing now. In terms of empowerment, we have trained thousands of young persons from our federal constituency on different skills acquisition and many of them are today employers of labour.”
