As the All Progressives Congress held its primaries to elect chairmanship and councillorship candidates, 31-year-old Yakubu Atanda has been elected as the chairmanship candidate in Iwo local government area.
The APC members turned out en mass to show their support and elect their flag bearers in the direct primary held in different wards in the local government.
In Iwo Local Government, the party faithful in the six wards of the local government queued behind the poster of the two major aspirants where the youngest aspirants, Ogbeni Yakubu Atanda pulled the highest number of votes.
Shortly before the commencement of the election, Mr. Remi Ojeniran, and two other aspirants stepped down and openly declared their support for Yakubu.
Ojeniran said “I’m a contender in this race, but today I officially step down for my brother.” He deserves our support; we must all band together to protect him from the selfish leaders who don’t want progress for our party and the Iwoland.
The other two aspirants, Kazeem Asifat and Isiaka Babajide said they have sent their withdrawal letters to the party leaders at the state secretariat.
