A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has called on voters in Osun State to drag the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the court for wasting their votes.
The call came during a Sunday interview on Arise TV, following the recent Osun State Governorship Election Tribunal’s verdict which removed Governor Ademola Adeleke from office due to over-voting at over 700 polling units.
The tribunal instructed INEC to issue a Certificate of Returns to former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
Falana stated that INEC must be held responsible for the election outcome and should work towards improving its processes to avoid similar situations in future elections. He also commented that it would be a difficult task for Adeleke’s legal team to overturn the tribunal’s verdict.
“INEC will have to go back to the drawing board and put their house in order. If a similar situation occurred in a presidential election, it could lead to a crisis of monumental proportions,” warned Falana.
The senior advocate’s call for legal action by voters highlights the need for accountability and transparency in the electoral process.
