Napoli have been crowned champions of Italy after a decisive 2-0 win over Cagliari on the final day of the Serie A season, securing their fourth league title and holding off a late challenge from Inter Milan.

In front of a jubilant crowd at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku emerged as the heroes, scoring the goals that sealed Napoli’s second Scudetto in three seasons. Their efforts ensured Napoli finished just one point ahead of Inter Milan, who also won 2-0 away at Como in a match that saw their opponents reduced to 10 men following the first-half dismissal of veteran goalkeeper Pepe Reina in his final professional appearance.

McTominay opened the scoring just before halftime with his 12th goal of the season, volleying home from a Matteo Politano cross. The Scotland international, who joined Napoli in August, quickly became a symbol of the team’s revival under new coach Antonio Conte, helping the club recover from a disappointing title defence in the previous season.

Lukaku then doubled Napoli’s lead early in the second half, showcasing his strength and composure as he controlled a long pass from Amir Rrahmani, shrugged off defender Yerry Mina, and rifled home the title-winning goal.

Despite Stefan de Vrij giving Inter the lead in the 21st minute and Joaquin Correa adding a second just after halftime, their win in Como was ultimately in vain. Napoli’s result sparked celebrations across the city as fans hailed their new champions.

Inter, last season’s titleholders, will now shift focus to the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain in Munich. Manager Simone Inzaghi appeared to have one eye on that crucial fixture, naming a rotated side for their final league match. Having dropped 12 points from winning positions this season, Inter’s title hopes faltered late, leaving the Champions League as their only shot at silverware in an exhausting campaign.
