The Anambra State Government has dismissed eight operatives of the Agunechemba Security outfit following their brutal assault and public humiliation of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Miss Jennifer Elobor.

Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, announced the dismissals on Wednesday at the agency’s headquarters in Awka. He confirmed that the operatives would be handed over to the police for prosecution.

According to Emeakayi, the incident occurred on Tuesday while the operatives were reportedly pursuing suspected cultists.

However, their attack on the corps member was described as “completely outside the agency’s mandate and utterly unacceptable.”

“The Soludo administration has zero tolerance for misconduct, brutality, or abuse of office by security personnel,” Emeakayi said. “Any officer found guilty of such acts will face immediate dismissal and prosecution.”

Despite appeals from the victim’s family and NYSC officials for a private resolution, the government insisted on a full investigation and appropriate punishment to deter future misconduct.

Emeakayi stated that the state government had already covered Miss Elobor’s medical expenses, replaced her damaged belongings including her phone,  laptop, and issued a formal apology to her family, the NYSC, and the public.

He further noted that the incident would mark a turning point in reforming the Agunechemba outfit and restoring public confidence in community security operations.

“This administration is fully committed to professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights in all security engagements,” he added.

As of press time, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, had not responded to requests for confirmation on the handover of the dismissed operatives.
