Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has stepped down from his position to focus on his ambition to become the next governor of Oyo State.
In a resignation letter dated March 26, 2026, and addressed to President Bola Tinubu through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Adelabu expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve in the current administration.
He thanked the President for the trust placed in him, noting that it was an honour to contribute to efforts aimed at improving Nigeria’s power sector under the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to him, his decision to resign was driven by the need to fully commit his time and resources to his governorship aspiration in Oyo State.
“I write with deep gratitude to formally tender my resignation as Minister of Power. It has been a privilege serving our country and supporting efforts to strengthen the power sector,” the letter read in part.
Adelabu added that stepping down would allow him to concentrate entirely on his political ambition, as he prepares to contest in the state’s forthcoming governorship race.
His resignation marks another high-profile political move as preparations gradually build ahead of the next election cycle.
