Former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party, citing the need for a fresh political direction.

Kwankwaso, who flew the party’s presidential flag in the 2023 elections, announced his resignation in a statement released on Sunday, describing the decision as difficult but necessary.

“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the NNPP with immediate effect,” he said, adding that the current political climate in Nigeria requires strategic realignment.

According to him, after careful consideration, he believes aligning with a different political platform would offer a better opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the country’s future.

Despite his exit, Kwankwaso expressed gratitude to the party’s leadership, including the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, as well as members of the National Working Committee and supporters across all levels for their loyalty and support.

He also appreciated members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, assuring them that the shared vision for a better Nigeria remains unchanged.

While the former governor did not immediately disclose his next political destination, sources suggest he is set to join the African Democratic Congress.

Insiders within both parties indicate that a formal declaration could take place in Kano, where Kwankwaso may be received by top ADC figures, including David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola.

There are also indications that he may move alongside key allies, including former Kano deputy governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.

In a related development, Kwankwaso recently met with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Abuja, where both leaders reportedly held discussions on the state of the nation, this further fueling speculation about ongoing political alignments ahead of future elections
