The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has inaugurated its Electoral and Appeals Committees to oversee the conduct of its 2026–2030 executive elections.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the federation’s secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, was led by NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, who stressed the need for transparency, fairness, and integrity throughout the electoral process.
Gusau urged members of both committees to carry out their duties without bias or external influence, noting that the credibility of the exercise is vital to the growth and governance of football in Nigeria.
“We expect diligence, neutrality, and courage. This process must inspire confidence both locally and internationally as a model of transparent football administration,” he said.
He also assured that the federation would provide the necessary support to ensure a credible and widely accepted election.
Responding on behalf of the committees, Matthew Burka’a pledged professionalism and accountability, promising that the process would reflect global best practices.
“We will deliver a free, fair, and credible election that earns the trust of the football community,” he said, adding that the exercise would attract attention from global football bodies such as FIFA and Confederation of African Football.
Burka’a further noted that the election could serve as a benchmark not only for sports administration but also for broader governance standards.
The Electoral Committee includes Burka’a, Babagoni Grema, Bature Musa, Ayibaye Temedie, and Olugbenga Omole, with Arinze Anughele and Abayomi Omoyimi serving as alternates.
The Appeals Committee is chaired by Justice C.J. Aneke, alongside Benjamin Sati and Abdulmalik Awwal, while Emmanuel Obafemi and Ayi Ukpayam will serve as alternates.
NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, will act as secretary to both committees in line with the federation’s statutes.
The elections into the NFF Executive Committee are scheduled to take place on September 26 in Lafia.
Several top football administrators, including Philip Shaibu and Felix Anyansi-Agwu, were present at the event.
