A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ademola Adeyeye, has expressed confidence that the party and its governorship candidate, Munirudeen Oyebamiji, are well positioned to win the next governorship election in Osun State.

Adeyeye, who spoke during an interview with JareTiamiyu, said discussions about whether the APC stands a chance in the election should no longer arise, stressing that the party is already focused on preparing to return to governance in the state.

According to him, the APC remains committed to delivering what he described as the true dividends of democracy to residents across the state.

“Asking if our party and our candidate stand a chance should not even be a conversation anymore. We should rather be talking about the fact that we are preparing for governance and ensuring the people of Osun State get the dividends of democracy,” he said.

Adeyeye noted that popularity alone does not equate to effective leadership, adding that governance must be measured by tangible development and impact on citizens’ lives.

He argued that the state has regressed in several areas under the current administration led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, stressing that residents deserve a government that prioritises development across communities.

“Governance is serious business. It is no longer time for dancing; it is time to ensure the people feel the impact of government not just in big towns but even in the smallest villages,” he said.

The APC chieftain also highlighted the calibre of aspirants who contested the party’s governorship ticket, describing them as individuals with impressive professional and political backgrounds.

Among those he mentioned were Kunle Adegoke, Iyiola Omisore, former deputy governor Benedict Alabi and businessman Akin Ogunbiyi.

Adeyeye said the emergence of Oyebamiji as the party’s candidate demonstrates the strength and depth of leadership within the APC.

Speaking on national politics, he praised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that economic reforms introduced by the government, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, have significantly increased allocations to states from the federation account.

He acknowledged that the reforms initially brought hardship but insisted that Nigerians are beginning to see their benefits.

“The governors are now receiving higher allocations because of the difficult decisions taken by the federal government. These are the kinds of reforms that will eventually yield positive results for the country,” he said.

Adeyeye also dismissed claims of internal crisis within the APC in Osun State, insisting that disagreements following the party’s primaries are normal in politics and that internal mechanisms exist to resolve them.

He cited recent interactions between party leaders, including the National Secretary of the APC, Ajibola Bashiru, and Iyiola Omisore, as evidence of ongoing reconciliation within the party.

According to him, relationships among political actors often go beyond politics, noting that attendance of APC leaders at social events should not be interpreted as evidence of division within the party.

“There might be a little back and forth because of the primaries, but there are mechanisms within the party to resolve such issues. There is no cause for alarm,” he said.

Adeyeye further urged political actors to focus on substantive issues affecting the people of Osun State rather than engaging in what he described as “beer parlour journalism” and trivial debates.

He said critical issues such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, tourism development and economic growth should dominate political discussions ahead of the election.

“We should be talking about the number of teachers in our schools, the healthcare facilities available, the roads being constructed and other development issues that affect the people directly,” he added.

Adeyeye concluded that the APC remains united and determined to reclaim power in Osun State, promising that the party would deliver responsible and impactful governance if given the mandate by the electorate.
