Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, is set to confer First Class Honours on 154 students at its 2nd Combined Convocation Ceremony scheduled for Saturday.
The Vice-Chancellor, Muhammad Yakasai, disclosed this during a pre-convocation press briefing held at the institution’s Senate Building in Kafin Hausa.
According to him, a total of 4,109 students will graduate across six academic sessions, including 154 First Class, 1,326 Second Class Upper, 1,954 Second Class Lower, 649 Third Class, and 26 Pass degrees.
Academic, Infrastructure Growth
Yakasai highlighted key developments within the university, including the introduction of postgraduate programmes and the restructuring of the School of Preliminary Studies into the School of Preliminary and Continuing Education.
He also noted improvements in infrastructure, with the construction of lecture halls, hostels, research centres, and a modern library to enhance teaching and learning.
“Solar energy solutions and ICT development are also being implemented to enhance efficiency on campus,” he said.
Focus on Welfare, Expansion
The Vice-Chancellor said the institution has prioritised staff and student welfare through initiatives such as subsidised transportation and accommodation.
He acknowledged the support of the Jigawa State Government and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund in driving the university’s growth.
Yakasai also revealed that the university plans to establish a College of Medicine to expand its academic offerings and contribute to healthcare development.
He added that the introduction of postgraduate studies has boosted research output and attracted experienced academics to the institution.
Call for More Support
Despite the progress, the Vice-Chancellor appealed for additional government support, particularly in staffing and accommodation, to sustain quality teaching and research.
The upcoming convocation marks a significant milestone for the university as it continues to expand its academic capacity and infrastructure.
