Senator Saliu Mustapha, who represents Kwara Central Senatorial District, has officially submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms to contest the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 elections in Kwara State.
The lawmaker disclosed this in a Facebook post on Wednesday, describing the move as a major step in his political journey toward leading the state.
According to him, the submission formally signals his participation in the APC screening process for the governorship race.
“Yesterday, I formally submitted my Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to contest for the All Progressives Congress Governorship Primary Ticket for Kwara State,” he wrote.
He added that his ambition is driven by the desire to build a more progressive and inclusive state.
“This marks my official entry into the party’s screening process and represents a significant step in the journey toward building a more progressive and inclusive Kwara State,” he stated.
Saliu Mustapha also pledged to continue consultations with party leaders, stakeholders, and residents across the state as the political process unfolds.
“I look forward to continued engagement with the people of Kwara State, party leaders, and political stakeholders as the process progresses. Together, we will continue to work towards the future our state truly deserves,” he added.
The senator currently serves as chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture Production Services and Rural Development. He was elected into the Senate in 2023 on the platform of the APC.
His declaration further intensifies the race for the APC governorship ticket in Kwara State ahead of the 2027 general election.
Other notable figures linked with the contest include former Kwara Central senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe, Senator Lolo Ashiru of Kwara South, former APC state chairman Bashir Bolarinwa, and civil engineer Femi Sanni, popularly known as Araba.
