Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen has reassured football fans around the world that he is recovering well after recently receiving a shock from his implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD).
In a heartfelt message shared with supporters, Eriksen said he is now back home with his family and in good spirits following the incident.
The former Manchester United and Tottenham star explained that while the episode had a significant impact on him and his loved ones, it was different from the cardiac arrest he suffered during the UEFA Euro 2020 in 2021.
“I want to let everyone know that I am doing well and that I am home with my family,” Eriksen said. “As you can probably imagine, receiving a shock from my ICD has had a major impact on both me and my family, but I want to reassure everyone that this was a different situation from what happened in 2021.”
The 34-year-old expressed gratitude for the swift response of players, medical personnel and healthcare professionals who have monitored his condition over the years.
He praised the doctors responsible for his treatment, noting that the ICD functioned exactly as intended by protecting him when it was needed most.
“I am feeling good, and my recovery has already started,” he said. “I am also incredibly grateful to the doctors who have cared for me and my heart over the years. Thanks to their expertise, my ICD did exactly what it was designed to do: protect me when I needed it.”
Eriksen added that his immediate priority is recovery and spending quality time with his family before returning to football activities.
“For now, my focus is on recovering, spending time with my family, going on vacation and playing football with my children,” he said.
The midfielder’s message has been met with an outpouring of support from fans and members of the football community, many of whom have wished him a speedy recovery and a healthy return to the game.
