Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko has disclosed that she lost ₦5 million after staking a bet on the 2026 FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain.
The actress made the revelation in a post shared on her Instagram page on Monday, admitting that the painful loss had convinced her to quit betting.
“First time betting and I lost. Will never try it again. My ₦5 million is gone. In fact, I am done watching football. Anxiety almost killed me,” she wrote.
Although Etiko did not reveal the exact betting option she played, her social media posts during the World Cup final suggested she had backed defending champions Argentina to retain the trophy.
Before kick-off, the actress confidently declared her support for Lionel Messi and his teammates, writing, “Argentina all the way. Who can’t wait?”
As the game progressed, however, her confidence turned into frustration as Spain dominated proceedings.
At one point, she posted, “This ball tough o. Argentina is pissing me off,” while also praising goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez for keeping Argentina in the contest, describing him as “the savior.”
Etiko’s disappointment was confirmed after Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 following extra time to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Substitute Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute to hand Spain their second World Cup title, ending Argentina’s hopes of successfully defending the trophy.
Following the final whistle, the actress revealed that the defeat also cost her ₦5 million, saying the experience had put an end to her interest in sports betting.
Her post has since generated mixed reactions on social media, with many fans sympathising with her loss while others urged her to avoid gambling in the future.
