Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prioritise grassroots engagement over social media propaganda, insisting that elections are not won on platforms like X, Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok.
Speaking at an APC stakeholders’ meeting in Kaduna on Monday, following the party’s victory in Saturday’s by-election, Sani emphasised that the APC’s success came from inclusivity, grassroots mobilisation, and people-oriented governance.
“There is no ballot box on Twitter. There is no ballot box on Instagram or Facebook. Elections are won at the grassroots, not online,” the governor declared.
He noted that while opposition parties expended energy on “X battles and Facebook noise,” the APC focused on policies that directly touched the lives of ordinary citizens. “Our opponents fought a propaganda battle, but we fought a political battle. They lost because the people know who truly works for them,” he said.
Sani described the by-election outcome as historic, particularly in communities where the APC had never secured victory since 1999. He attributed this shift to deliberate investments in rural empowerment and agriculture.
“Before now, some communities never voted for our party. Today, they stood with us because they saw inclusivity. We defended everyone, regardless of faith, ethnicity, or party,” he added.
Highlighting his administration’s achievements, the governor disclosed that Kaduna had reclaimed more than 500,000 hectares of abandoned farmlands, making the state a leader in maize, tomato, and ginger production. He said these agricultural policies, backed by robust budgetary support, had significantly improved rural livelihoods.
Sani further cautioned party leaders against neglecting grassroots structures, stressing that the APC’s strength ahead of the 2027 general elections lies in maintaining close ties with local communities.
“Party first, politics second. We must not neglect our wards and councils. If we remain with the people, no party can defeat us,” he stated.
APC State Chairman, Air Commodore Emmanuel Jekada (rtd.), commended Governor Sani for his inclusive leadership and praised stakeholders for their contributions to the party’s electoral success. He expressed confidence that, with unity, the APC would further consolidate its hold on power in 2027.
