On the occasion of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, Senator Natasha Akpoti‑Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, warned that true transformation cannot occur without accountable leadership.
In her congratulatory message delivered in Abuja, she expressed frustration that despite marking another year of independence, the country remains beset by insecurity, economic hardship, and inequality though she praised the resilience and ingenuity of Nigerians.
She lamented the cancellation of the traditional Independence Day parade, noting the announcement came late and pointing to deeper uncertainties in national direction. She described the nation as standing at a crossroads.
“The Nigeria our heroes envisioned is not one divided by ethnicity, religion, or politics, but one united by shared values of justice, equity, and prosperity.”
She called for a collective commitment from government and citizens alike to pursue service, integrity, and accountability.
The Senator urged Nigerians to see Independence Day not merely as a date in history, but as a solemn call to live out the vision of those who fought for freedom.
“Today, we must honor their memory not with words alone, but by carrying forward their vision of a nation that truly works for all… the task before us is clear: to ensure no Nigerian is left behind.”
Senator Akpoti‑Uduaghan also noted that earlier in the day, the National Assembly had unsealed her office in Suite 2.05 of the Senate an office that had been locked since her suspension from chamber activities on March 6, 2025.
