Real Madrid manager, Xabi Alonso, has shared his thoughts on why his team triumphed over Barcelona in Sunday’s LaLiga El Clásico at the Santiago Bernabéu.
According to Alonso, Madrid’s ability to limit Barcelona’s chances in front of goal was key to their victory. He added that his side also created several scoring opportunities during the tense encounter.
Goals from Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham secured the win for Los Blancos against Hansi Flick’s men.
Speaking after the match, Alonso described the result as a well-earned win:
“It is an important, deserved, even short victory. We had chances, the penalty… It gives us the feeling of a competitive team in big games,” he said.
The Spanish coach also reflected on the intensity of the clash, noting that such tension is typical of a fixture as historic as El Clásico.
“It was the tension of an important match and a close result. We didn’t concede too many chances, and I interpret that as normal. We should not overemphasise those tense moments. Everything has happened in the Clásicos, and we have another game on Saturday,” Alonso added.
