Nigerian football sensation, Victor Osimhen, says he is ready to propel Galatasaray to new heights in the UEFA Champions League, declaring that it’s time to “make a statement on the biggest stage in football.”

The 26-year-old forward, who previously shone at Lille and Napoli, has quickly become a fan favourite in Istanbul since joining Galatasaray permanently this summer after a remarkable loan spell in the 2024/2025 season.

Speaking in an interview with UEFA, Osimhen revealed that his mission at the Turkish club goes beyond local dominance.

“When I arrived, I spoke with the president, and we agreed that we want to make our mark in the Champions League,” he said. “We’ve dominated the Turkish league for years, now we want to prove we can compete with the best teams in Europe.”

Osimhen’s journey is a powerful tale of resilience. Raised in Olusosun, a humble community in Lagos, his rise from street football to global stardom continues to inspire millions across Africa.

“I came from a very poor background,” he recalled. “Olusosun shaped me. It taught me resilience. I always go back to visit and remind the kids there that if I could make it out, they can too.”

The striker said Galatasaray’s passionate fan base has deepened his commitment to the club.

“When I arrived in Istanbul, I was amazed about the thousands of fans at the airport at 3 a.m. welcoming me. That kind of love gives you energy. I’m ready to go through everything for this club, the good, the bad, and the ugly,” he said.

Osimhen also spoke about his biggest influences both on and off the pitch.

“Didier Drogba has always been my football idol. I learned a lot from how he played and carried himself,” he said. “But in life, my biggest inspiration is my brother. He taught me how to hustle and never give up.”

As Galatasaray aim to reclaim Turkey’s pride in Europe, Osimhen is confident the team has what it takes to make history.

“We are the biggest club in Turkey, and one of the biggest in the world. Now, we want to show it in the Champions League,” he added.

With his trademark drive and determination, Victor Osimhen is not just chasing goals he’s chasing greatness.
