The President of the Ilobu-Asake Development Union (IDU), Pastor Olufemi Salako, has announced activities lined up for the 33rd Ilobu Day Celebration, calling on citizens to embrace peace and unity while rebuilding the community after recent crises.

Addressing a press conference at Ilobu Town Hall on Monday, November 3, 2025, Pastor Salako said this year’s celebration is designed to “create lasting memories, touch lives, and revive the rich cultural heritage of Ilobu.”

He recalled that last year’s edition was abruptly halted following the tragic death of Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, a prominent indigene and former Chief of Army Staff, describing the loss as a painful moment that deeply affected the community.

According to him, the week-long celebration began on Saturday, November 1, with a free health outreach addressing teenage pregnancy and drug abuse, followed by interactive sessions, youth programmes, and cultural displays.

The grand finale is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, with Governor Ademola Adeleke expected to grace the event alongside dignitaries such as Chief Azeez Kolade, Rt. Hon. Lasun Yussuf, and other notable sons and daughters of Ilobu. The event will also feature awards to nine family compounds for their contributions to the community’s development.

Salako expressed gratitude to Governor Adeleke and security agencies for restoring peace in the local government area and appreciated indigenes for their resilience during the crisis.

“After the storm comes the shine,” Salako said. “Peace and tranquility have returned, and the work of rebuilding physically and emotionally has begun. Let us make Ilobu the welcoming community it has always been.”

He appealed to the state government to provide relief and support to residents who lost properties and livelihoods during the crisis, noting that over ₦2 billion worth of properties were destroyed.

While commending the state government for reconstructing the Ilobu Grammar School bridge, he urged further interventions to help displaced families and small business owners recover.

Salako also extended a hand of friendship to neighbouring communities and called on investors to take advantage of Ilobu’s strategic location, youthful population, and growing economy.

“The era of tension and animosity should be permanently behind us,” he added. “Ilobu is ready to lead the charge for peace, progress, and prosperity.”

The week long event will conclude with a thanksgiving service at St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Ilobu.
