Wike-and-Makinde

Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Borno State have called on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed to set aside their differences and work towards restoring unity within the party by realigning with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The appeal was made on Monday in Maiduguri during a press briefing addressed by the Chairman of PDP stakeholders in Borno State, Grema Kyari, who is also a member of the party’s National Working Caretaker Committee.

Kyari commended Wike for what he described as his unwavering commitment to discipline, constitutionalism, and institutional integrity within the PDP, despite persistent opposition from some party leaders.

“Wike’s steadfast commitment to discipline, constitutionalism and institutional integrity remains unmatched, especially in the face of sustained pressure from Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde, who are being supported by Barrister Kabiru Turaki. These actions have continued to deepen the internal crisis within our party,” Kyari said.

He further called on Turaki, Bala Mohammed, former chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Makinde to abandon confrontational politics and embrace reconciliation for the sake of the party’s stability.

“In view of these undeniable facts, we urge Barrister Kabiru Turaki, Governor Bala Mohammed and Governor Seyi Makinde to sheath their swords, embrace party unity, and realign their loyalty with our national leader, His Excellency Chief Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, whose contributions to strengthening and repositioning the PDP are well known,” he added.

The Borno PDP stakeholders also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for rejecting the outcome of the Ibadan Convention that produced Barrister Kabiru Turaki as the party’s National Chairman.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the only legitimate and legally recognised leadership of the PDP in Nigeria is headed by Honourable Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Distinguished Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary,” Kyari stated.

The group equally commended the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Caretaker Committee for its decision to dissolve the Borno State PDP Executive Committee and approve the constitution of a new Borno State PDP Working Caretaker Committee.

According to the stakeholders, the decision has rekindled hope among party members across the state and reflects the long-standing demand for justice, internal democracy, and fairness within the PDP in Borno State.

Kyari further called on the former Borno State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Zanna Gaddama, to immediately facilitate the handover of all party documents, properties, and records to the newly constituted caretaker committee within 48 hours.

The caretaker committee is chaired by Comrade Abbas Musa Jibrin, with Hon. Haruna Audu serving as secretary, and has been tasked with conducting fresh ward, local government, and state congresses in the state.

Kyari warned that any attempt to resist the directive would attract legal consequences.

“Any attempt to resist this lawful directive will amount to impersonation and will be challenged in accordance with the law,” he cautioned.
