The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially received Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, who represents Kaduna South in the National Assembly, following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Katung was formally presented with his APC membership card at a brief ceremony held in Madakiya Ward, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The ward chairman, Alfred Diriya, led party members in welcoming the senator, describing his defection as a significant boost for the ruling party in Southern Kaduna.
The lawmaker said his decision to join the APC was motivated by a desire to contribute meaningfully to the party’s growth and help secure future electoral victories. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Midat Joseph, Katung expressed confidence that his entry would strengthen the APC’s structure in the zone.
“Our intention is to add value and ensure the party records success in all upcoming elections,” the senator said.
Katung also praised the policies and interventions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that they had positively impacted his constituency and influenced his decision to switch allegiance. According to him, the APC has evolved into an inclusive political platform with a clear direction.
“APC has come to stay. It is now an all-inclusive party. We joined because of what President Tinubu has done for the people of Kaduna South,” he stated.
He further appealed to residents and political stakeholders in Southern Kaduna to unite under the APC to promote peace, development, and collective progress in the area.
Meanwhile, in a related political development, a former senator and diplomat, Ambassador Abdallah Wali, who is widely regarded as an ally of former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, has resigned from the PDP after more than two decades with the party.
In a resignation letter dated December 31, 2025, and addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Sanyinna Ward, Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Wali announced his immediate withdrawal from the party and all its structures.
“I am resigning from my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, including all organs of the party in which I am a member, with immediate effect,” the letter read.
Wali expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunities he was given to serve both the party and the country, and thanked his supporters for their loyalty and support over the years. Copies of the letter were also sent to the PDP leadership at both the local government and state levels.
As at the time of filing this report, Wali had yet to disclose his next political step, leaving open the possibility of a fresh political alignment or a quiet exit from active partisan politics.
