Manchester City have officially completed the signing of Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth, securing the attacker on a long-term deal.

The Premier League champions confirmed on Friday that the 26-year-old has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract, which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031.

In a statement on their website, City described Semenyo as one of the league’s most exciting attacking talents, following his rapid rise during his spell at Bournemouth.

“Semenyo has enjoyed a meteoric rise to become one of the Premier League’s most feared forwards,” the club said.
The winger made 110 appearances for Bournemouth after joining the Cherries midway through the 2022/23 season, quickly establishing himself as a key attacking outlet.

Born in London to Ghanaian parents, Semenyo began his professional career at Bristol City. He further honed his game through loan spells at Bath City, Newport County and Sunderland before breaking through in the Premier League.

Operating mainly from the left side of an attacking midfield trio, his consistent performances at Bournemouth attracted interest from several top clubs, with City eventually winning the race for his signature.

Reacting to the move, Semenyo said joining Pep Guardiola’s side was a proud moment in his career.

“I am so proud to have joined Manchester City. I’ve watched City over the last decade under Pep Guardiola and they’ve been dominant in the Premier League while also achieving amazing things in the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup,” he said.

“They have set the highest standards. It’s a club with world-class players, world-class facilities and one of the greatest managers ever. To be here at this stage of my career is perfect for me.”

The Ghana international added that he believes his best football is still ahead of him.

“My best football is yet to come. City are still competing in four competitions and I feel I can help them have a strong second half of the season. The Etihad is my new home and I can’t wait to play in front of the fans.”

City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, described Semenyo as the club’s top target during the January transfer window.

“Antoine is a really exciting signing. He made it clear from the start that City was the club he wanted to join,” Viana said.
“He has pace, power, quality with both feet and a strong influence on games. Importantly, he still has plenty of room to grow. He is humble, hard-working and totally focused on improving, which makes him ideal for us.”

Semenyo will be available for immediate selection and is eligible to feature in City’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg clash against Newcastle next Tuesday.
