Constituents of Oriade/Obokun federal constituency have accused the lawmaker representing the constituency, Oluwole Oke of using their details and forging their signatures to falsely present them as beneficiaries of empowerment that never took place in the constituency.
The constituents, who released separate videos against the lawmaker on social media on Tuesday, denied ever benefitted from any empowerment project from the lawmaker in his almost 20 years at the chamber.
InsightMedia gathered that the lawmaker was called out by popular Abuja-based lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi over projects funded by the federal government but not executed in any if the two local government areas of the constituency.
Olajengbesi also called out the lawmaker for using companies by his staff and political cronies to get contracts and refusing to execute the projects.
Reacting to the legal practitioner, Oke posted a document and pictures of some of the empowerment done in his constituency.
In now deleted documents, the lawmaker posted a document showing list of beneficiaries of one of his projects.
Hours after the post, allleged beneficiaries whose name, phone numbers and signatures were included on the list came online to deny knowledge of the project and any participation.
In his reaction, Joshua Arowosegbe called Oke a “liar”, stating that he was shocked to see his name being posted on Facebook by the lawmaker as a beneficiary of any empowerment from him.
Arowosegbe said, “I saw what Hon. Wole Oke put out that he gave me machine (motorcycle). He is a liar and he should stop lying on us. He has never gave me any motorcycle. My signature was forged and I challnege him to come out and show his evidence.”
To emotional Leke Fanimokun, a resident of Ijebu-Jesa, the inclusion of his name on the list brought back sad memories of how he was matcheted and stabbed with broken bottles during the struggle to enthrone Oke in 2022.
Fanimokun, who showed marks of the wounds on his back, said “despite all these, I have not benefitted from Wole Oke till today.”
“For more than 18 years that I have been struggling with him, I have no benefit. In 2023, I was matcheted and stabbed with broken bottles while pasting his posters across wards. Nothing like that (getting motorcycle) from him. My signature was forged and I challenge him to show evidence.
“Wole Oke should stop lying on me. I received no empowerment items from him,” emotional Fanimokun said.
Another person whose name appeared as number 16 on the list is Oloyede Rasaq. He also denied ever receiving any empowerment item from the fifth-time lawmaker.
In his video obtained online by InsightMedia, Rasaq said, “my name is on the list brought out by Hon. Wole Oke late yesterday. I was number 16 on it. I want to say that I didn’t receive any empowerment item from him. The signature on the document is not mine, it’s a forged signature. I know Wole Oke very well but I received no item from him.”
While protesting his inclusion on the list, Femi Awe, another constituent of the lawmaker, called on the anti-graft agencies to investigate the project, stating that he was never a beneficiary.
Awe said, “I was surprised to see my name on Facebook as one of beneficiaries of an empowerment by Hon. Wole Oke. I saw my name, my phone number and a forged signature of mine. It’s a lie, I never benefitted anything from him.
“I called on the ministry and other agencies to investigate this.”
Effort to get response from Oke failed as he did not pick calls to his phone by InsightMedia while text message to his WhatsApp line was not responded to as at the time of filing this report.
